How to Apply for PCP/ACP Ground Ambulance Positions in Nova Scotia through EMC

Part 1: EHS Registration Application

EHS Registration Requirements
Go to the EHS website to review all registration requirements. Please note that you may need to submit additional requirements depending on what school you will be graduating from, or how long you have been working in the field.

Submit EHS Registration Documentation to registrarehs@gov.ns.ca or fax to (902) 424-1781.
Start this process early, as it can take time for EHS to process applications.

  1. Paramedic Registration Form – also located on the EHS website
  2. A copy of your birth certificate
  3. A copy of your recent criminal record check
  4. A copy of your PCP/ACP diploma (submit upon receiving)
  5. As per above, review all requirements on the EHS website to ensure you submit any additional documentation required.

Part 2: Online Employment Application Form

  1. Go to www.emci.ca.
  2. From the left-hand menu, select Careers -> Job Opportunities.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the General Application link.

  • Proof of successful EHS Registration (Confirmation of Paramedic Registration Identification Number)
  • A copy of your current resume and cover letter
  • A copy of your current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search (dated within 90 days) *Note - This requirement is new effective August 1, 2011 for all new hires.*
  • A copy of your Class 4 driver’s license (or equivalent)
  • Must be full graduated license/unrestricted
  • A copy of your recent driver’s abstract
  • A minimum of your top three preferred areas to work in Nova Scotia
  • We make every attempt to place individuals in one of their preferred areas. Potential placements are also based on operational requirements and availability. Casual employees are expected to work shifts anywhere from 2-8 bases or more, depending on the region placed; therefore, travel is required.
  • List of 3-4 professional references (no personal references please)
  • Required References: Preceptors (if you will be a new graduate/are new to the field), current employers (if applicable) and former employers you have had a direct reporting relationship with (examples: Supervisors, Managers, Directors, etc.)
  • Confirmation Form of successful completion of the Paramedic Physical Abilities Test (P-PAT)
  • The P-PAT test is not required by the application deadline, so we will contact you to arrange your testing time later in the process. Review our Frequently-Asked Questions section for information on and requirements for the P-PAT test. The cost to applicants is $65 + taxes, which can be paid to LifeMark Health on the day of your test. Submit the paperwork for the P-PAT test prior to your testing time to LifeMark Health.
  • Potential hire dates circulate when our new employee orientations begin. Provided you are selected and successful in the application and hiring process, you may be invited to one of our new employee orientations.

Additional Information and Application Deadlines

All potential new hires must attend a corporate pre-screening session 3-6 weeks prior to our orientation sessions. These sessions will consist of a panel interview, a written exam, OSCE (clinical portion), as well as the completion of your P-PAT. Please note that your invite to the orientation sessions will be based on the results from the pre-screening.

All application requirements must be received by the deadline to be considered for hire.

Important Notes:

  • Space is limited for each New Pre-screening Session. 
  • PCPs normally begin on a casual/relief basis.
  • ACPs may have increased opportunity for full-time employment but typically begin on a casual basis.
  • Applications received past a deadline will be held for consideration for the next NEO (there are no exceptions).

For paramedic students submitting your EHS Registration application, EHS will accept your application no more than three weeks prior to your graduation date. Submit all required documents and follow up to submit your diploma upon receiving to complete the application process.

  • As noted above, submit your professional references by the application deadline. Upon completion of your practicum, submit additional preceptor references as well as any new employer related references.
  • If you have successfully completed the P-PAT test through Holland College, the Maritime School of Paramedicine (MSOP) or the Atlantic Paramedic Academy (APA), you can submit the copy of your test results along with your application requirements. 
  • Please note: While we do our best to consider your preference for work location, placements are also based on operational requirements and availability.
