"Keep Me Safe" Campaign: Slow Down When Passing Emergency Vehicles
Effective May 1, 2010, laws are changing for passing a stopped emergency vehicle with its lights flashing. Emergency vehicles include, but are not limited to, ambulances, police cars and fire trucks.
When an emergency vehicle is stopped by the side of the road with its lights flashing, motorists are required to:
- slow down to 60 km/h or obey the speed limit when it’s below 60 km/h
- leave an empty lane between yourself and the emergency vehicle if you can do so safely
